The Rev. Angela E. Furlong

Rev. Angela is a former preschool teacher.  Her call to ordained ministry follows a lifetime of eclectic and fruitful calls in the secular world.  She has enjoyed profession as a teacher, a neurobehavioral specialist, a parenting specialist, a linguist, and a naturalist.  She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (specializing in trauma), a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (specializing in the effects of trauma on learning), and a Master’s Degree in Divinity.  She is also a wartime veteran.

Her familial experience is both multiethnic and multicultural, and her values reflect that.  Her father is African American, her mother is Luso-Asian, her sister is African American, and her brother is Chinese Indian.  She is a passionate advocate for God and the oppressed, tirelessly professing God’s unconditional love for all and above all else.  She is especially passionate about the healing power of love.

Rev. Angela is also passionate about the involvement of children and youths in the life and mission of the church.  Our youths are not only our future; they are our present.  Involving them in all aspects of church life, in accordance with their abilities, willingness, and preparedness, is vital not only to their active formation as agent Christians and leaders, but also to the longevity of the church.  As their adult companions and mentors, it is our privilege and honor to encourage them—to guide them along The Way, and Rev. Angela strives to do so.

Much of her professional life has been centered around the care and teaching of children and youths and fostering family involvement.  Every child not only needs to know that they are a beautiful and beloved creature of God, but also that their contributions to our common and spiritual lives are important, welcomed, and valued.

Outside of her church life, Rev. Angela also enjoys art in its many forms including: the artfulness of creation, gardening, iconography, poetry, painting, ceramics, and story-sharing.
