In 2007, when we moved into St. James’ new building, a drawing was completed for our Memorial Garden and Columbarium area. The total expense was more than we could afford but several landscape and architectural items have been donated to the garden space as the years have gone by. Four lovely trees were planted, and a large rock with fountain system was installed in the center of the garden with thanks to Linda Bonifant-Travers and Jeremy Williams. Our outdoor services are now graced by a stone altar which was fabricated and placed by Leon Straus. In 2008, many parishioners and families purchased engraved memorial bricks to honor family members, to remember loved ones, or to recognize special events in their lives.
This spring, with the funds from the first brick campaign and a generous contribution from the Nursery School, we have been able to complete the walkway in the garden and set the engraved bricks. Many parishioners have asked again to purchase engraved bricks. With this, we are launching a new Brick Campaign. As before, each brick will cost $50 and a portion of the cost will help offset expenses for the Memorial Garden. To order one or more bricks, please take a Memorial Garden Brick packet from the table in the Narthex – or call the church office (301.829.0325) to have one mailed to you. Order forms and checks marked Memorial Bricks can be placed in the Sunday collection plate or mailed to the church office. Orders will be accepted until June 30, 2016.
We hope to fill our walkway with many personalized bricks – a wonderful Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or birthday gift for those we love, or a symbol of loving remembrance for those we have lost.
