On Thursday evening, Nov. 19, St. James Episcopal Church in Mount Airy welcomed the Rev. Kristin Krantz as its 17th rector in a Renewal of Ministry service.
Originally from Jeffersonville, Indiana, Krantz graduated from Indiana University with degrees in history and political science, as well as a secondary education teaching certification. She taught middle and high school in Indiana and Chicago before moving to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she attended Episcopal Divinity School, graduating with a Master of Theology nine years ago. Later that year she was ordained to the priesthood.
Krantz lived in the San Francisco Bay area of California from 2006 to 2014, working at All Souls Parish in Berkeley.
“We then moved to Ellicott City, and I worked as the interim rector at Memorial Episcopal Church,” said Krantz, 41. “But I wanted a settled call in a parish. When St. James opened their search process, I read through all of their documents and talked to some local clergy colleagues and then I threw my hat in the ring.”
