Nursery School

Our St. James’ Nursery School students are having a wonderful end to their school year! We happily report that the children took part in “muffins in the morning” with their favorite adult or a parent, and “teddy bear picnics” before they leave for the summer. Pre-K students will also partake in their annual graduation programs as they move on to Kindergarten. The students have been able to get back to a more “normal” way as the year has gone by.

Because of the amazing program St. James’ provides, our summer program is nearly fully enrolled, and only a few spots remain for the fall. St. James’ will continue the tradition of excellent pre-school education led by excellent teaching and leadership. We are proud and excited to let you know that Amanda Norman has graciously accepted the position as the new Director of St. James’ Nursery School. She is an experienced teacher and leader with over 20 years of teaching in the public school system as a special educator and team leader. Amanda just finished her 3rd year at St. James’ as a teacher.

St. James’ has a dual accreditation from the Maryland State Department of Education and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We also have the highest possible rating in the Maryland EXCELS Program. We are a licensed pre-school in the Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care. We are also thrilled to announce that we have received membership in The National Association of Episcopalian Schools. With Ms. Norman at the helm, we have no doubt the children and staff will thrive and our accreditations will flourish and continue. We look forward to continuing our strong tradition of a faith-based pre-school education for our students. Please join us in welcoming Amanda and supporting her leadership of our school.

Happy Summer!

Worship Ministries

Spiritual Ambassador

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia says that ministry is an activity conducted by Christians to express or spread their faith.

It is difficult to deny the importance of our ushers, a spiritual ambassador of our parish, serving as the first representative for our worship service.

Ushers in the tabernacle and temple were called doorkeepers. One of the purposes of doorkeepers was to receive offerings from the people. Jeremiah refers to one doorkeeper as a “man of God.” He said in chapter 35, “And I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, a man of God, the keeper of the door”.

The disciples functioned as ushers on many occasions. They directed people who came to hear Jesus speak or to be touched by His healing hands. On one occasion Jesus gave a sharp warning to the disciples who tried to keep children away from Him. On another occasion, Jesus told the disciples to organize a large group of over 5,000. Jesus supplied the unending loaves and fishes, but the disciples served the hungry multitude as ushers.

The character of these first deacons was clearly spelled out. They were men of good or honest report, full of the Holy Spirit, full of wisdom, and full of faith. Stephen, the first Christian martyr on record, was both a deacon and an usher.

The role and grace of ushers goes back thousands of years. Years of welcoming, guiding, serving, helping, and supporting new and old parishioners, reverently guided to celebrate our service.
If you feel a nudge, a thought, or wonder if you would like to know more, be a part, we welcome you to listen as the Holy Spirit is at work inviting you to join the ministry of ushers. Deep blessings and feelings of bottomless gratitude await you.
