From the Rector – Re-Gathering Update

The Re-Gathering Team has been meeting and working on an action plan to re-open our building for office and group use, and for outdoor in-person worship. Our tentative goal is for offices to open back up on June 29, and for outdoor worship to begin in early July – both dependent upon Diocesan approval. We are exploring how we will offer both an outdoor Eucharist and continue with our Zoom livestreaming service, so that worship is accessible to everyone. More details on all of this will be coming soon.

As we prepare for these two initial steps of re-gathering it is important for everyone to review the Covenants and guidelines we will be following. Please take a few moments to read both the Covenant for Groups Regathering in Episcopal properties in the Diocese of Maryland and the Covenant for Regathering for worship and congregational life. If you are unable to open these documents please call or email me and I will send them to you in an alternate format.

Please continue to keep the Re-Gathering Team (Jeannie Pellicier, Dave Rak, Jim Bullington, Mike Henyon, and Vic Pellicier) in prayer as we try to carefully and creatively plan for this next phase of our life together.

Yours in God’s peace,
Kristin+

Outreach
In May, St. James’ Church member (R) Beverly Williams, RN at UM BWMC, delivered 200 “Thinking of You” cards signed “From your friends in the Town of Mt. Airy, MD” donated by Sudha Kaistha,  owner of SK Printing, to an Assistant Manager at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center.  The artwork was created by Kaistha’s daughter with handwritten messages on each card from members of St. James’ Episcopal Church:  Joan Collins, Mary Hutchins-Danna, Joan Fader and Karin Halter.  The project was coordinated by church member Marilyn Hancock.

WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are excited to introduce Compassion Camp!

Compassion is an important skill in creating resilient and caring children. Each day, leaders will work with children through bible stories, music, drama and art to teach compassion.

We are joining St. Andrew’s, Glenwood and other communities to partner for Compassion Camp, making this summer program available to children all over the place. All children who are in preschool through 5th grade are invited! Cousins, friends, grandchildren – the more the merrier!

Compassion Camp will be July 27 – 31 from 9:30 – 11 AM on Zoom.

We seek volunteer leaders to help teach, lead and love these compassion campers. There will be 2 required trainings for volunteer leaders.

A donation of $20 per camper/volunteer is suggested to cover the cost of your Compassion Camp T-shirt. Donations can be mailed to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 52, Glenwood, MD 21738; “Compassion Camp” in the memo line.
