From the Rector – The Work of Re-Gathering

I am pleased to share that our Re-Gathering Team is in place.  I will be joined by Vestry members Jeannie Pellicier and Dave Rak, along with Jim Bullington, Vic Pellicier, and Mike Henyon.  Our task is to follow the Guidelines and Parameters set up by our Diocese and complete the Readiness Checklist to submit to the Diocese for approval of re-opening our building and beginning in-person worship.

Our work is also being informed by the feedback collected from our Congregational Survey on Re-Gathering and Online Worship.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill it out, especially the short answer questions.  We had 47 people respond.

From the data we received, a few things emerged:

  • Some members are ready to get back to in person worship as soon as possible
  • There is more support for outdoor worship than indoor worship
  • There are folks for whom receiving communion is very important
  • Overall more people indicated they are more likely to still attend online worship rather than in person worship at this time
  • There is a strong desire for what I am calling “hybrid worship” – that is, once we begin gathering for in person worship again, people want us to continue live streaming services

Based on this, the Re-Gathering Team will first work to create a plan for in person outdoor worship with communion, along with re-opening the building for office use and group meetings.  After that, we will work on the plan for re-gathering for indoor worship to be ready for that down the line.

I do not yet have hard dates on when we will make the transition to in person worship, but we will send out information as soon as we know more.  And rest assured that we will indeed offer hybrid worship, continuing to with an online experience for those who cannot or choose not to gather with others yet.

If you have questions or concerns please drop me a line.  Thank you for your continued work to stay connected, stay church, and take care of each other.

Yours in God’s peace,
Kristin+

Outreach

As the warm weather arrives and another month passes, we find our church life is still virtual, but as hard as it is being separated, we know it is in the best interest of our church family to stay healthy as we stay church.

Therefore, it has been decided in the interest of social distancing, that the Outreach Committee will have our scheduled meeting on Thursday, June 18th at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. If you are interested in joining our group, please contact Gabby at gabbyn.m.4272@gmail.com to be added to the Zoom invitation.  We would love to have new members join our friendly and interesting group as we plan for our fall and winter activities.

IMPORTANT:  We have been informed the Mount Airy NET is now accepting food donations once again, but only if they come directly from the grocery store. (Guessing you bring the store receipt with you—??)  The most needed items are oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup, muffin mix, cake mix, and canned corn along with other non-perishables.  Please deliver your donations directly to the NET (address below).

As always, monetary donations are appreciated and should be made through their website at MtAiryNet.org OR mail a check to Mt. Airy NET, Inc., 403 S. Main Street, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

Also, per the NET, they “are open during the pandemic.  If you need food, please come by.  We are open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and have plenty of food.  If you know someone who needs food, please have them come by or contact us” at 301-829-0472.

Blessings from your Outreach Committee to you and yours!
