Kitchen Update

As you may know, on November 25 there was an oven fire in our kitchen (see bottom of post for the email sent out at that time).  We’d now to like update you on next steps for restoring the kitchen to full use.

Last Saturday, November 30, about 25 folks, including parishioners and members of Scout Troop 829, answered the call to come and help clean the kitchen from top to bottom.  Over several hours everything in the kitchen, as well as the room itself, was scrubbed clean.  Thank you to everyone who was able to take some time over the holiday weekend to make the space usable for coffee hour last Sunday!

On Sunday, December 1, the Vestry Executive Committee and I met to discuss replacing the appliance that was damaged, and what needs to done with the larger commercial range which was hit with both the fire extinguisher and water.  Three families reached out to us immediately after the fire to pledge money, and through their generosity and with the help of Bryant Dulany who works at Lowe’s, we ordered a new residential range.  It was delivered today and it’s beautiful!  As for the commercial range, the fire department recommended that prior to using it we have it inspected.  We are in process of scheduling that now, and once we have that report in hand we’ll work to either repair or potentially replace that unit as needed, and share news of it with you.

I want to thank everyone who reached out to check in and see how they could help, and to all who was able to make the clean-up day.  Huge thanks also to Senior Warden Jeannie Pellicier for organizing the clean-up and working to order the new range, and to Junior Warden Ty Conlon for disposing of the old one.  And thanks again to Bryant Dulany for his expertise and help, and the families whose donations allowed us to purchase the new range so quickly.  This is a community that comes together when need arises and I am grateful to serve alongside you.

Yours in God’s peace,
