What cool toys are abandoned in your closet?
Our Thrift Shop with the help of Andrew Gobien (Vestry Member and Thrift Shop Liaison) has been selling items on ebay for more than a year. Online sales of donations to the Thrift Shop currently provide between 5 and 10% of total sales, but there is the potential to grow this by collecting more valuable donations. ebay for Charity has a generous program that greatly reduces the fees charged for non-profit sellers. Each month the Thrift Shop makes a stewardship gift to the church, in support of our mission and ministry, equaling twenty-five percent (25%) of gross sales, which includes ebay sales.
With the holiday shopping season quickly approaching the market for used toys increases greatly. People across the country are looking for deals on toys to help fill the space beneath the Christmas tree in an affordable way. Donations of used toys to the St James Thrift Shop at this time of year will supply the demand in the market, and will increase the Thrift Shop sales and the Thrift Shop donation to the church in a way not possible outside the Christmas season. So it’s time to clean out those closets and see what toys you’d like to donate.
Here are some suggestions:
