How does one shine their light? I’d like to share my experience with you……….
Over 40 years ago when my family moved to Mt. Airy, we began attending St. James’ Church. We immediately felt welcomed, and our children became involved in the Sunday School program. Some of you were here to see my children grow up, mature, graduate from college, marry and leave the nest. And, most recently, when my husband passed away.
Through all the events over these many years, you have been shining your light on me , and I thank you! We have prayed together, laughed and cried together and, yes, on many occasions we have partied together!
Your light sparked me to participate in various ministries provided at St. James. That is why I have enjoyed working with YOUR children in our Sunday School program. I will never tire of hearing the little ones sing: “this little light of mine. I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
The children seem to know how to let their light shine, which brings joy to us all.
It also brings joy to see our youth participating in St. James’ ministries and activities – and when our former Sunday School students worship with us when returning from college and the military. They are all amazing!
And so……I ask you to continue to let YOUR light shine – not only within these walls of St. James’ but in your homes, at your work place, in school, and in the community and beyond. I’m reminded of my bookmark that I regularly use, which reads: Let your light shine. Be a source of strength and courage. Share your wisdom. Radiate love.
I would like to end with a verse from Matthew (Matthew 5:14-16)
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, they put it on a stand and it gives light for everyone to see. In the same way, let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Keep up the good work!
