From the Rector –

Fall Kick-Off:  Ministry Fair, Choir Returns, Backpack Blessing, and more!

As hard as it is to believe, summer is coming to an end.  It’s been nice over the summer, to worship together in one service and slow down a bit, but I know I’m getting excited for all that fall brings:  the rise in energy, the return of choir, Sunday School and Youth Group beginning again, and the joy of being together more as we settle back into regular patterns after the catch as catch can of summer.

We will have our last summer service worshiping at 9:30 in the Memorial Garden on Sunday 9/1.  Bring a blanket or camp chairs and pray for good weather!  I’m also going to mix up another batch of super-giant-bubbles for post-church fun.

The following Sunday 9/8, will be our Fall Kick-Off and we will return to two worship services at 8:30 (spoken) and 10:30 (with choir).  Between the services at 9:30 we will have a Ministry Fair – so plan to come and walk around and learn about all the different ways we serve and learn together (there will also be awesome door prizes!).  Students of all ages are invited to bring their backpacks for a start of the school year blessing, and teachers and school staff members will be invited forward for a blessing as well.  Sunday School for children and youth Pre-K through High School will kick off the following week on 9/15 at 9:30.

I hope you’re able to squeeze out some final moments of summer joy in the days to come – and get ready for a fantastic new program year at St. James’!

Yours in God’s peace, Kristin+

Thank you to everyone who voted for what kind of Vacation Bible School they would like next summer.  Asyou can see in the picture below, there is a clear preference for a weeklong weekday camp.  With this information in hand we’re excited to start planning for a faith-full and Spirit filled VBS!

C&O Canal Prayer Hike – UPDATE Join us for our final prayer hike of the summer along the lovely C&O Canal on 8/25.  This is a flat trail**– perfect for strollers and folks up for a nice afternoon walk.  We will meet up at 3:00 pm at Monocacy Aqueduct (21115 Mouth of Monocacy Rd., Dickerson, MD 20842) and walk for about a mile and a half total.  Our hike will begin and end with prayer and include a time of reflection in the middle – with space for conversation and silence along the way.  Sign up in the narthex and invite a friend! **Previously we indicated that the trail is paved – it is not paved, it is hard packed dirt and gravel.  Still flat and still great for strollers!
