Yesterday we shared the news that St. James’ is becoming a new Charter Organization for the Boy Scouts of America. We are hopeful that Troop 829 will launch here this fall!
How did this emerge at St. James’?
A few months ago we were approached by the District Executive for the Baltimore Area Council of the Boy Scouts who was looking for a new Charter Organization to host a new Troop. After several conversations with various Scout representatives, and discussion across two months of Vestry meetings, the Vestry and Rev. Kristin voted yes to become that new Charter Organization! We are excited about the opportunity of having Scouts here at St. James’, and are looking forward to developing this aspect of ministry in our community.
What’s next?
Bill Cunnane will be the Scout Master for the new Troop. Bill has a strong passion for Scouting and both of his sons will be a part of the new troop. In order to begin, Bill is in the process of recruiting both adult leaders and youth scouts. Once the minimum threshold is reached for membership, the new Troop will be registered. This will be a Scouts B.S.A. Troop for boys ages 11-17. Down the line we are open to the possibility of also hosting a Cub Scout Troop (boys and girls K-5th grade) and/or a Scouts B.S.A. Troop for girls ages 11-17.
