Vestry

Over the weekend of February 22-23, the Vestry met at The Claggett Center for prayer, reflection and discussion.  As part of our continuing work on Congregational Development, we are looking at the identity of St. James’.  “Congregational development is the development of congregations of all sizes, locations and conditions into more faithful, healthy and effective communities of faith”.  In short, “Who are we?” “Who is our neighbor?” and “What is our purpose?”  To help us answer these questions, we explored the congregation’s history and mission in Mt. Airy.  Did you know that the original St. James’ building was completed in 1890 and that the name was originally going to be Pinkney Memorial Chapel?  Do you have a story you would like to share about St. James’?  Please share it with Kristin+ or a Vestry member to further our discussion.

We also elected wardens and committee liaisons for the upcoming year.  Jeannie Pellicier – Senior Warden, Ty Conlon – Junior Warden, Jane Barger – Treasurer, Deb Schaeffer – Registrar, Susan Straus – Clerk of the Vestry, Heather Albertson – liaison to the Nursery, Lucy Winston – liaison to Outreach and Andrew Gobien – Liaison to the Thrift Shop.  Please keep them in your prayers as they work to fulfill their roles.

Blessings,
Jeannie Pellicier, Senior Warden

PS: As part of their Congregational Development training, Heather Albertson and Kristin+ will travel to Seattle in June. We are looking for donations of airline points/miles to Southwest or American airlines. Cash donations will be accepted as well.

Thrift Shop

Hello again from St. James Thrift Shop!

It doesn’t feel like it, but Spring is on its way. Next week we will be switching over from Fall/Winter to Spring/Summer. We have been saving all year, from clothing to barbecue items for your backyard barbecue and everything in between.

The shop is back to its original hours of: Tuesday-Saturday-10am-4pm and every third Thursday we are open until 6pm.

The shop is under a makeover, some fresh pain and organizing for better access. Come check us out!

Prom season is around the corner, so come to the shop for that perfect dress. These dresses are in mint condition and in most cases were only worn once.

The shop is in need of volunteers, so if you have the time we can use the help. It is fun and rewarding.

I want to thank our employees and volunteers for all their wonderful work and also a huge shout out to Jane Barger and Deb Schaeffer, who guide me every day. Thank you Ladies!

Thrift with purpose

Lenten Calendars for Mt. Airy Net
The season of Lent is approaching fast!  We will have Lenten calendars available to each family in our church.  If your friends or coworkers would like one, please give them one too!  Let them know the contributions are for Mt. Airy Net.  The calendars and instructions will be available for pick up on Sunday, March 3 in the Narthex.  The Sunday school children are decorating boxes to place the food and sundry items.  The first day of Lent is March 6 so your calendars and boxes will come at the perfect time!
