St. James’ Church is seeking a part-time Director of Music Ministries. Candidates should be competent pianists and organists and demonstrate an ability to work with volunteer choirs and musicians. The successful candidate will have experience with the tradition and liturgies of the Episcopal Church as well as the ability to accompany and lead the choir and congregation in a variety of musical styles.
Duties: To work closely with the Rector to plan weekly worship and worship for holidays and special occasions; to conduct weekly choir rehearsals except during the choir’s summer break (normally July and August); to accompany the choir and congregation and play such solo music as is required at the principal Sunday service (10:30 am) and on major holidays; to engage singers and instrumentalists in the congregation and community in the music ministry of the church; to be available to play for funerals and weddings for which additional compensation will be provided.
St. James’ Church is an Episcopal Parish of about 200 members with an amateur choir of 12-14. We worship in a beautiful 9 year old facility with excellent acoustics. We have a Rodgers Opus 1102 organ and a Steinway console piano (41”).
Compensation commensurate with experience.
