Last winter’s cold, wind and snow had a negative effect on our lovely garden in front of the church building. Besides losing some medium-size plants to deer who bedded down in the garden, the crape myrtles and the laurel hedge under both windows suffered significant winter kill. Fortunately the trees have somewhat revived but the laurel hedge will have to be taken out. Landscape Development Co., the original planting contractor, will come on Friday, August 22, 2014, to trim the winter kill from the crape myrtles and other trees around the building as well as removing the laurel hedge completely. In mid fall, the hedge will be replanted with another plant that should withstand the cold winds that hit our building. Plant suggestions are welcomed – call Christine at the church office or leave a note in her box. And…pull a weed or three as you walk by the garden!
